The Haier Building - New York, NY

Haier America's headquarters are located in the Landmark Building on Broadway and 36th Street in Manhattan. Acquired in 2002, this grandiose building is the home of the corporate offices.

The Haier Building History

The Landmark Building at 1356 Broadway is the former headquarters of the Greenwich Bank. Their commission of this building was a benchmark of the institution's success and progress from its earlier, more modest Greenwich Village beginnings.

The Greenwich Bank Building was constructed in 1922-1924 and designed by Edward Palmer York and Philip Sawyer. The space was previously occupied by the two-story Sheridan building before York & Sawyer designed the six-story building, with basement, that stands today.

Identified as one of the most refined examples of York & Sawyer bank buildings by The Landmark's Preservation Commission, the three facades are one of the finest examples of classical architecture. This ancient Roman style encompasses a rusticated podium, monumental Corinthian colonnade and high attic. The challenge of this building is the irregular quadrilateral created by Broadway's diagonal axis and the gentle downward slope from 6th Avenue to Broadway. The three facades are skillfully composed, obscuring these inequalities.

To greet you at the main entrance are two four-panel double bronze doors, which lead you into the 52,000 square foot interior. The exterior is clad with Indiana limestone above a polished pink granite base. Every evening, the grandeur of the building's stunning architecture is illuminated with showers of blue light.
